MPOWERingDreams Tour: Building Trust and Scale in the International Student Market

The international student market is incredibly noisy, filled with competing opinions and fragmented stories. For MPOWER, the challenge was clear: we had to build authentic trust in India. Because MPOWER operates digitally and lacks a physical, public-facing office footprint, establishing that trust for a once-in-a-lifetime financial product was critical.

The CHALLENGE

We needed a bridge, and we chose the creator route.

In September 2023, we identified and onboarded creator Yudi J, who had amassed a significant following among Indian students. We kicked off the partnership with a high-impact video: This Guy Paid $300+ Million To Students to Come to USA.

But this wasn’t a short-term play. As a growth marketer, I knew the game was long-term consistency. We set a rhythm of one long-form YouTube video a month, followed by an online workshop to expand on the video's topic. This digital routine built our foundation for six months. By January 2024, the traction was undeniable, and it was time to bridge the gap from digital to physical.

The Launch

In March 2024, we launched the first MPOWERingDreams India Tour, moving beyond digital workshops to host our first-ever series of in-person events.

I led this initiative end-to-end from our base in Bengaluru. For the inaugural series, we targeted Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. To ensure the environment felt educational rather than transactional, we specifically booked auditoriums instead of standard banquet halls, maintaining the "classroom" feel. A lean, four-person team managed the entire operation—vendor sourcing, AV equipment, logistics, and strict budget oversight.

The Results of Phase 1:

- Generated ~3,500 qualified leads.

- Over 1,500 students attended across the four cities.

- Created city-specific WhatsApp communities to handle logistics and audience communication, which remain highly active and engaged today.

The timing was deliberate. Aligning with the March–June window when international students actively seek funding meant that students who attended the events began filling out their MPOWER loan applications almost automatically.

Scaling the Proof of Concept

The March series proved that offline events could drive immediate loan volume while generating long-term brand equity. Armed with this proof of concept, we expanded the tour in November 2024.

We scaled to five cities: Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and New Delhi. We maintained our winning protocol: Yudi led registrations, MPOWER handled the advertising, and my team managed the end-to-end logistics.

This initiative has since evolved into a bi-yearly series. To date, we have conducted 21 events (20 in India, 1 in Nepal).

Cross-Border Expansion

With a proven, low-cost success model in India, we expanded to Nepal in March 2026. The demographic profile is similar, but the market requires heavier top-of-funnel awareness due to differences in banking infrastructure.

Partnering with a local media agency to navigate necessary permissions, we shifted the strategy slightly to prioritize brand awareness over immediate conversion. The execution was a massive success: the Nepal event alone drove over 8,000 registrations and saw 1,500+ attendees. This adapted model will now serve as our blueprint for penetrating new international geographies.

The Event Playbook

Pre-Event
(30-60 Days Out)

We launched registrations via Yudi’s platform, leveraging his established audience. After testing multiple platforms (Yudi's site, Eventbrite, and Luma), Luma (Pro) emerged as the clear winner for physical check-ins. MPOWER drove registrations through targeted paid ads and organic content.

The Early Bird
Advantage

On the day of the event, the MPOWER team and Yudi arrived early to host a 1-hour Q&A session. This allowed students to get personalized answers for their specific cases, incentivizing early arrival.

Networking
Community

Following the Q&A, we hosted a "bingo" networking session. Students could find potential college roommates or peers enrolling in similar degrees. This became a massive hit and was frequently highlighted in student feedback.

Actionable Content
University Integration

Yudi led a session focused on actionable insights. By November 2024, we elevated the value proposition by bringing in prestigious universities, including Purdue University and Duke University. They led dedicated sessions on career planning and provided the university’s perspective on intake selection.
